They lack good leadership while draft picks have been bad. Unfortunately, the Lions have not hired the right people to run its football program. Guys like the great Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson retired prematurely as a result of the Lions failure to put a quality product on the field. The Matt Patricia hiring was an example of them hiring a coordinator because of his connection to a great coach. If you look at the coaches from the Bellichick tree none have had success away from him. The Lions have talent on the field they just don’t have it in the front office. The Lions, similar to the Cleveland Browns continue to disappoint their fans because they fail to bring in a GM and coach along with good scouts to build that team with good talent and adequate free agent signees. Until they realize the error of their ways you’ll continue to see the occasional 9–7 1st round playoff loss surrounded by 6–10 and 5–11 seasons.
