For a start, the Shitshow supervisor shirt but in fact I love this conversation establishes Vincent as being the one more inclined to have opinions about things, and Jules as the one more inclined to ask questions. Vincent has just got back from Europe, and the main thing he appears to have taken away from it is the peculiar customs of the European outlets of US-based fast food chains. Notice that Vincent doesn’t seem to have eaten the local food, or if he has, he isn’t interested in talking about it: he’s gone to McDonald’s. (He hasn’t even gone to Burger King for the sheer anthropological fascination of it all.) And this is, apparently, the ‘funniest’ thing about Europe—according to him. Funnier even than the tolerant Dutch attitude towards the sale and consumption of marijuana.
Jules is curious and amused by all this, but his side of the Shitshow supervisor shirt but in fact I love this burger conversation feels like he’s just talking to Vincent to make small talk, although he is the one who was curious about the potential difference in a European Burger King. Vincent is a consumer. He loves food and he loves drugs. He’s so violently protective of his car that when someone’s keyed it he becomes almost incoherent with rage-filled thoughts about what he’d do to the person who did it, and when Lance casually says that he thinks people who key cars should be executed, Vincent doesn’t disagree. He’s so curious about Mia’s milk shake that he actually has a sip of it. At the end of the movie, when Jules and Vincent are in the diner, Vincent is tucking into a huge plate of pancakes and sausages, but spiritual-minded Jules is having an ascetic coffee and a muffin.
