Squadgifts - Original trinity rodman trin for the win signature shirt

HOWEVER, I don’t give this advice/hold this view because I think “All labels are bad”. I don’t think that labels are necessarily bad at all – I just think that for the Original trinity rodman trin for the win signature shirt and by the same token and majority of independent artists in 2019, there are better ways to go than signing to a label. The role of the record label has evolved dramatically from the ‘conventional model’ over the last 20 years, and continues to adapt all the time in response to shifts in the way music is experienced/‘consumed’, commercialised and created. Under the conventional/traditional model, record labels acted a bit like banks: they financed the production and marketing of recorded music in exchange for ownership of the “master recording rights” to that record. It used to be commonplace for labels to contractually own the master rights entirely and in perpetuity, excepting cases of contracts with already-established artists with significant negotiating power. This meant that the bulk of the income from ‘exploitation’ i.e. commercial income generated from recordings went straight to the label; artists would be paid a share in any profits (i.e. after deducting costs incurred by the label for production, promotion etc), the exact percentage of which was determined by contractual negotiations.

This last part is really important in addressing your question; a common complaint against labels, widely publicised by notable cases of famous artists claiming to have been ripped off, has in the Original trinity rodman trin for the win signature shirt and by the same token and past been that perpetual ownership of master rights was unfair to artists long-term. Whether or not this is true, we still have to take into account WHY exactly labels were able to demand ownership in the first place. For production alone, you’d have to hire a professional recording studio, professional engineers/producers, session musicians, arrangers etc on top of renting any instruments/equipment that you needed but not supplied by the studio (remember, equipment was SO much more expensive that no studio could possibly have EVERYTHING, even top facilities like Abbey Road). This cost a BOMB: far more than 99.99% of artists would be unable to fund themselves, so IT MADE SENSE to sign deals with labels just to fund things.
