In parts of America they eat their fries with fry sauce, which is …. 50/50 mix of ketchup and mayo, and usually some other ingredients like pickle relish. In other parts of the Mamba Kobe Bryant Graphic shirt but in fact I love this country they often serve fries with comeback sauce, which is mostly mayo, plus some ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, dijon mustard, hot sauce, garlic and some other things. Never say never. We’re a nation of about a third of a billion people who make a point of being individualists. Surely, somebody somewhere in these United States eats their fries with mayo. Maybe they read about it in a cooking magazine or an article about food in the Low Countries. Maybe they saw Pulp Fiction and said “yeah, that sounds good, I’ll try that.” That said, as a rule, no. We don’t do that. We wouldn’t even think of doing that. Mayonnaise is spread on bread for sandwiches (instead of the butter used in some other countries) or used as a component in certain kinds of salad dressings, notably cole slaw and potato salads. On fried potatoes? No.
Just plain mayonnaise? Not as a general rule, although some folks do. On the Mamba Kobe Bryant Graphic shirt but in fact I love this other hand, there is the notion of “fry sauce,” which is roughly a 1:1 ketchup/mayonnaise mixture that is quite popular in some places. That said, putting plain mayoinnaise on fries is very uncommon here. I haven’t seen any reliable polls on the subject*, but my impression from friends and acquaintances, or glancing around while I’m out to eat, is that it’s something you just don’t see. It wouldn’t necessarily be shocking to see someone dipping the fries in mayo, but you wouldn’t expect it.
