Because he provided the easy answers to all their problems; he said he wanted to “end the war on coal” (which is bullshit; we can retrain workers to make solar panels or something that isn’t a dying industry), put up tariffs (which I support) and he wanted to “drain the swamp” (referring to corrupt politicians in Washington.) He blamed not only these real problems, but also imaginary ones (like Mexicans.) She was an establishment politician who didn’t seem to care much for them, and he seemed like their knight in shining armor.
