A lot of people were painting this as a war between “stat nerds” and “people who watch the game.” The weird thing, though, is that those who support Cabrera for MVP seem to hinge their argument on the Triple Crown (leading the league in three specific statistics: batting average, home runs, and runs batted in). Trout’s 2012 was one of the top 30 seasons in baseball history, whereas Miguel Cabrera had a great season, but not even his own best.
